University of Fredericton mourns the loss of Dr. Gordon Kuhn

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of our founding professors at the University of Fredericton, Dr. Gordon Kuhn.

Gord was an intellect and gentle man who very much cared about the success of the University and his students.

He was generous with his time and had a talent for positioning challenging material in a way that comfortably elicited curiosity and inspired learning. In the early days of the school, Gord contributed to many aspects of the school including as a member of the Academic Board, and through course development and administrative support.

Gord stepped down from teaching in 2012 because of progressive neurological diseases. In 2014 the staff and Board of the University moved to name the then-new library the Dr. Gordon Kuhn Resource Library, an honour which he greatly appreciated.

In speaking with his partner Kathy over the weekend, she came across a hand-written quote in his belongings and suggested that it be included in this announcement. We couldn’t agree more that it demonstrated the way Gord led his life.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
– J.Q. Adams

A dear friend to many here at the school, Gord will be deeply missed.
