The University of Fredericton (UFred) is committed to providing students with relevant learning by employing faculty with extensive real-world experience. In September of this year, UFred professor Robert Montgomery had the distinct honor of becoming the National Education Director for the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) and a member of the CSSE Board of Directors.
“This role serves Canadian Health and Safety practitioners and together with a team of dedicated volunteers the voice of the HSE profession,” he said.
Montgomery served as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where he gained invaluable investigational skills. He later applied his expertise to a role in Forensic Accounting & Loss Prevention at a Fortune 500 company. His efforts in collaboration with a small group of like-minded professionals resulted in an annual savings of $6M for the company. Montgomery went on to found Mountain Industrial Safety Services Inc., (MISS), an Industrial supply and management consulting firm which offers educational programming that includes health and safety education as part of the overall management plan. MISS represents a range of organizations all over North America and has been providing management consulting services to clients for over two decades. Montgomery is confident his experience will prove invaluable in his new roles,
“My consulting practice has allowed me to develop business relationships across the country, and this opportunity will allow me to give back to the profession that has treated me very well. I look forward to the challenge,” he said.
Montgomery holds a Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation, is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), and maintains a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation through the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). He facilitated most of the courses offered by the Alberta Construction Safety Association, and currently, facilitates Essential Communication and Interpersonal Skills for H&S Leaders; a course in the Health and Safety Leadership specialty stream in the Executive MBA degree program at UFred.
UFred extends warm congratulations to Robert Montgomery as he assumes his exciting new roles.
