The Sandermoen School of Business is named after Kjetil Sandermoen, founder and chair of the Board of Directors of the University of Fredericton. The focus of the school is to foster leadership skills that students require for personal, corporate and organizational success.

UFred's Online Ecosystem

Live vClasses

Certain courses in our online MBA include a vClass (virtual class), which is a live faculty-led lecture or seminar delivered weekly using the state-of-the-art synchronous courseware, WebEx. This courseware allows for interactive opportunities between faculty and students within student groups.

Online Group Work

In the business programs, students incorporate group work into their online learning. Using online platforms like Skype and Google Docs, students are able to easily meet and collaborate on documents without being hindered by distance.

Online Campus

Students at the University of Fredericton receive the same high-quality education, networking opportunities and collaboration obtained from an on-campus program. Students interact with professors and peers on an ongoing basis.

Resources

UFred offers online resources for its online MBA students to take advantage of, including a library and bookstore to assist in the efficiency and learning of each program. In addition, personal support is provided through the presence of UFred advisors, peer support and instructor office hours.

MBA Course Structure & Details

Foundation Courses
All students begin the program with 10 foundation courses, three specialty courses and end with the integration project. To learn more about these courses click on the arrow.

Leadership Theory and Practice (MBA 5005)

This course gives students the foundational knowledge they need to critically assess leadership concepts and their utility. Students survey the leadership theories of key thinkers and practitioners in the field, learning about the empirical, theoretical and pragmatic strengths and limitations of each approach. Through case studies and exercises, students develop an understanding of organizational leadership. They will also learn a comprehensive set of leadership practices that will have immediate value for application at work.

Accounting for Managers (MBA 5010)

This course offers a comprehensive, graduate-level exploration of managerial accounting, including the analysis of relevant accounting data and how to interpret it.

Managerial Finance (MBA 5015)

This course explores the principle role of finance via its concepts, calculative applications and capital market analyses. In addition, the basic concepts of the time value of money, rates of return and valuation are covered.

The Global Economic Environment (MBA 5020)

This course reviews basic macro- and micro-economic concepts and illustrates their impact on decision making and strategy formulation. Students will learn how to think through economic challenges and opportunities presented to their organizations.

Leadership in Change Management (MBA 5025)

This course will assist the learner in understanding the drivers of successful organizational change and development; clarifying the components of an effective and healthy organization; and understanding the skills to successfully design, launch, nurture and lead change.

Systems Thinking & Organizational Design (MBA 5031)

In an increasingly complex global environment, leaders need to think more holistically using concepts of systems thinking, design thinking and performance excellence. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to understand inter-relationships and the impact of decisions across an organization.

Strategic Marketing Planning (MBA 5035)

This course focuses on the strategic marketing planning process and examines which leading-edge digital applications are most useful with respect to intelligence gathering, analysis, decision-making and/or implementation.

Strategic Operations Planning (MBA 5040)

Leaning heavily on external and internal analysis and the CEO’s strategic guidance, this course examines how a Chief Operating Officer develops a company’s long-term operations strategy, comprising decisions about supply-chain logistics, production, customer service, quality assurance, distribution and field support.

Strategic Human Resources Planning (MBA 5045)

This course examines the human resource recruiting and development function and the organizational design function within a global and organizational lifecycle perspective, emphasizing how personnel and designs must change as projects and divisions evolve.

Strategic Information Systems Planning (MBA 5050)

This course introduces the main concepts of management information systems (MIS), examines how the design of MIS can affect the performance of an organization and explores the process of information systems planning from the perspective of the CIO.

Eight Specialization Options

After completion of the foundation courses, students will choose their specialty stream.
With eight options to choose from, students have the advantage of specializing in an area that best aligns with their career.

Global Leadership

This specialty stream is designed for those who want to lead their organization to higher success in their global networks, whether they’re still in the early days of their career or have years of management experience.

Health & Safety Leadership

This specialty stream was developed with and supported by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE). It aims to address the gaps that many in the OHS profession face due to lack of formal knowledge.

Innovation Leadership

This specialty stream is built for those who have the vision to take on bold new ventures. It teaches students how to convince other leaders of the merits of their ideas, with the ultimate goal of helping students foster innovation within their organizations.

Human Resource Leadership

This specialty stream aims to provide students who want to invest in their future with a deep understanding of business practices and employee motivations.

Social Enterprise Leadership

This specialty stream helps students develop the capabilities to lead an organization by focusing on a blended value return on investment, balance sustainable profitability with a social mission and financially manage a social enterprise.

Business Analytics Leadership

Designed for early-career professionals and those who already have baseline management experience, this specialty stream develops business analytics skills and the business acumen needed to propel careers forward.

Real Estate Leadership

This specialty stream is geared toward early-career real estate professionals and managers who aspire to guide their organizations to more robust performance by using some of the most advanced online teaching and learning techniques.

Professional Selling & Leadership

This specialty stream is designed with ambitious sales management professionals in mind. Advance with a business acumen that harmonizes sales theory and practice, without interrupting career momentum.

Program Tuition & Fees

2019-2020 Academic Year (CAD)

Tuition for the full MBA program is $25,235 and can be paid all at once or;

 

Pay by course – a 4-credit course is $1,740.35, and a 6-credit course is $2,610.52.

 

There are no additional fees for international students.

In addition to tuition, there is a $20 library access fee for each course. The online library provides students access to texts, articles, publications and additional resources.

Students enrolled in the Business Analytics Leadership stream will also pay a one-time software fee of $85.

International Field Study

The International Field Study (IFS) is offered to Sandermoen School of Business online MBA and EMBA students as part of the Global Capstone Project. Students travel internationally to help develop a deeper understanding of the complexity of doing business in the global economy and apply concepts and theories to real-world business scenarios. This program offers a truly unique perspective to students who are completing their post-graduate studies in UFred’s fully-online environment.

How to Apply

Applications for the online MBA are reviewed for consideration by the Admission Review Committee and an official notification sent to the applicant via email. The candidate’s full application package is reviewed for consideration to include education and work experience.

 

Individuals wishing to be admitted to the MBA program must present the following minimum admission requirements:

 

  • an undergraduate degree from a recognized and accredited university;
  • cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (B) on a 4.0 grade scale;
  • international applicants must be qualified for university or college admission in their home countries and transcripts must show superior performance on the basis of the country’s grading scheme; and
  • if your degree was completed outside of North America, you may have your degree evaluated by World Education Services (WES) or International Credential Assessment Services of Canada (ICAS). Those reports can be sent directly to us or you can have them notarized by a lawyer.

 

A candidate’s full application package will be reviewed and consideration may be offered for work and life experience:

 

  • one or more years of full-time work experience;
  • one year practicum graduation requirement may be substituted for work experience;
  • Prior Learning Assessment (PLA); and
  • English proficiency (may require a TOEFL).

Fill out all of the Required Fields (Required Fields that have not yet been completed will appear as a red flag. Once a section has been completed, it will show a green “OK”.

In keeping with the University’s commitment to recognition of prior learning, students may transfer credit or advance standing credit toward their graduate degree program through courses previously taken. For consideration of transfer credits, only graduate-level courses successfully completed with a B grade or higher will be considered. Advance Standing credits may be earned by those who have specific business designations.* The total number of credits students may earn through transfer credits from other approved and/or accredited institutions combined shall not exceed half of the credits required for completion of their graduate degree program.

The University of Fredericton is a degree-granting university offering online MBA and EMBA Programs under Section 3 of the Degree Granting Act of the Province of New Brunswick in Canada.

 

The University of Fredericton is a candidate for ACBSP accreditation of business programs offered through the Sandermoen School of Business. The business programs at the University of Fredericton have been fully accredited by the Province of New Brunswick since 2007. The ACBSP accreditation will stand in addition to the provincial accreditation.
